What "925 Sterling Silver" actually means

Pure silver (999) is too soft for jewellery — it bends, scratches, and loses shape with daily wear. So jewellers worldwide use sterling silver, which is 92.5% pure silver mixed with 7.5% other metals (usually copper) for strength.

That's where "925" comes from — it's the international purity standard for real silver jewellery.

Anything stamped "925" should contain at least 92.5% pure silver. At Silvago, it does.

The 925 stamp on your Silvago piece

Almost every Silvago piece carries the 925 stamp — usually on the inside of a ring band, the back of a pendant, or the clasp of a necklace.

A small note of honesty: a few of our thinnest toe ring designs are physically too delicate to be stamped without damaging the piece. The metal itself is still 925 sterling silver — we use the same silver across our entire catalogue — but the stamp may be absent on those specific designs.

If you ever want to verify a stamped piece, you can:

  • Take it to any local jeweller for a touch test or acid test
  • Compare the weight and feel to known sterling silver
  • Send us a clear photo on WhatsApp and we'll help you locate the stamp

Real rhodium plating — and what it actually does

Every Silvago piece is finished with real rhodium plating — not "silver-coloured coating," not "anti-tarnish spray." Actual rhodium, a precious metal from the platinum family.

Why rhodium matters:

  • It gives your silver that bright, mirror-like white shine
  • It creates a protective barrier that slows down tarnishing significantly
  • It makes the piece more hypoallergenic for sensitive skin

Honest disclaimer: rhodium plating slows tarnish — it doesn't make silver permanently tarnish-proof. With normal daily wear, your Silvago piece will stay bright for months. With basic care, much longer.

How to care for your Silvago jewellery

Silver is a living metal — it reacts to air, sweat, perfume, and water over time. A few simple habits will keep your piece looking new:

  • Put jewellery on last — after perfume, lotion, makeup, and hair products
  • Take it off before swimming, showering, gym workouts, or sleeping
  • Wipe gently after wear with a soft cotton cloth
  • Store in the pouch we ship it in — air exposure is what speeds up tarnish
  • Avoid chlorine, salt water, and harsh chemical cleaners

Cared-for properly, a Silvago piece will stay bright and beautiful for years.

Our 6-month plating warranty

We stand behind our craft with a 6-month warranty on rhodium plating.

If your Silvago piece loses its plating significantly within 6 months of purchase under normal wear, we'll replate or replace it free of charge. Just reach out to us on WhatsApp with your order details and clear photos of the piece.

This warranty does not cover:

  • Damage from chemicals, chlorine, perfume, or harsh cleaning agents
  • Physical damage (bending, breakage from misuse)
  • Normal wear beyond the 6-month window

Our replacement & refund policy

We want every Silvago customer to be happy with their piece. Here's how we handle issues:

We replace or refund if:

  • The piece arrives damaged
  • The piece has a manufacturing defect
  • You received the wrong item
  • The plating fails within 6 months under normal wear

We do not refund or return for:

  • "I didn't like the design after seeing it in person" — please check our high-resolution product photos and reviews carefully before ordering
  • Damage from misuse or improper care
  • Custom or personalised orders
